  • Resumen
    • Book VII and Book VIII of the 'De Medicin' contain the most complete accounts on surgery since the Hippocratic Corpus. Celsus' works are generally considered as useful material integrated in an encyclopaedic presentation of savoir in 1st Century A.D.

This does not apply to physicians. However, the technical aspect of surgery enables us to examine thoroughly the originality of such a presentation. The knowledge of medicine can indeed be useful to whomever wishes to participate in its treatrnent. At first sight, the situation seems different in surgery. Book VII and Book VIII are shown, in this presentation, as coded information based on reproducing surgical procedures. The conclusion of this study is that, despite the specifie characteristics of surgery, Celsus' observations can be perfectly integrated to the rest of the "De Medicina". Therefore this exposé probably does not apply to widespread practice of this Art.
