    La cura y la prevención de la enfermedad periodontal asume un aspecto particular en el paciente con trasplante renal. Estos pacientes toman, entre otros, fármacos inmunosupresores en particular la ciclosporina de la cual uno de los efectos colaterales es la hipertrofia gingival.

    En este artículo los autores presentan el trabajo que han realizado en el Hospital San Rafael de Milán cuatro años después del comienzo del tratamiento.

    Gingival hyperplasia caused by medicine have an important role in the big chapter of periodontal desease.

    In this article the authors present their work made in the division of Periodontology of San Raffaele Hospital in Milano where they treat also renal transplant patients cured with Cyclosporin therapy.

    Gingival hipertrophy is just one of the undesidered effects caused by Cyclosporin, here used as immunosopresor.

    The authors have conceived a diagnostic-therapeutic protocol allied on these patients with a great success.

    The aim of this protocol is: to diagnose and determined the degree of hypertrophy, to reassore the patient usually frightened owing to this unusual event in his own mouth, to teach him the hygienic elements just for a right oral health, to cure the gingival hypertrophy with scaling and subsequently with operations of gingivectomia.

    This article is full of a wide casuistry and of a follow-up of three years from the first visit.
