    En 1859 el gobierno liberal creó el Registro Civil como parte del conjunto de reformas encaminadas a separar al Estado mexicano de la Iglesia católica. Con el registro de los nacimientos, matrimonios y muertes se pretendía establecer un estado de derecho igualitario.

    Este Artículo de investigación aborda los diversos obstáculos a los que se enfrentó el Registro Civil en el estado de Yucatán durante sus primeros años, y los esfuerzos por parte de las autoridades políticas para lograr su aceptación entre la población.

    In 1859 the liberal government established the Registro Civil as part of the package of reforms for separating the Mexican State of the Catholic Church. The registration of the births, marriages and deaths pretended to stablish a status of equal right. This Research Article approaches the different obstacles the Registro Civil faced in Yucatan during its first years and the efforts of the political authorities to achieve the acceptance in the population
