  • The writer presents newly discovered evidence about Count Baldassarre Castiglione acquisitions of books. He examines three documents—two letters and a list of payments and expenditures—addressed to Castiglione in 1523 by the Mantuan merchant Benedetto Adelardo Da Porto. He asserts that the documents provide valuable information about book prices and the names of people involved in commissioning and producing Greek manuscripts, as well as more evidence of the importance Castiglione attached to Greek literature.
