In 1956, during the Suez operation, the French command is subjugated to British command. The dissimilarity between their respective political-military objectives is a direct cause of the failure of the operation. However, the cooperation between the French and the British forces on the ground appears to be excellent, and even more so in the air. This success is due first of all to the specific use of air power and then to the personality of Air Commodore Raymond Brohon, chief of staff of the French Air Force component. In sum, just ten years after the start of the reconstruction of the French Air Force, the French contribution in the air to the Suez operation marks the return of French airmen to the highest operational level and equal to the British.

En 1956, lors de l'opération de Suez, le commandement français est étroitement assujetti au commandement britannique. Or, compte tenu de la dissemblance des objectifs politico-militaires, cette situation est une cause directe de l'échec de l'opération. Néanmoins, la coopération des forces franco-britanniques sur le terrain apparaît excellente, plus particulièrement dans le domaine aérien. Cette réussite tient tout d'abord à la spécificité de l'emploi de l'arme aérienne, puis à la grande complémentarité des moyens déployés et, enfin, à la personnalité du chef de la composante de l'armée de l'Air de la force d'intervention française, le général de brigade aérienne Raymond Brohon. En définitive, la participation aérienne française à l'opération de Suez marque, dix années après le début de la reconstruction de l'armée de l'air, le retour des aviateurs français au meilleur niveau opérationnel à l¿égal des Britanniques.
