Cervantes soldado de la infantería española

    Miguel de Cervantes, en Italia, ingresó en 1570 como soldado de Infantería en una de las compañías que conformaban los tercios españoles que, ya en Sicilia, Nápoles o en Flandes, intervenían en la defensa de los territorios integrados en la Corona de España. Como del resto de la vida del escritor, de su etapa de soldado de Infantería (1570-1575) tenemos pocos datos, pero los suficientes para reconstruir los años en que recorre el Mediterráneo participando en distintas campañas bélicas bajo el mando supremo de don Juan de Austria. Se recogen en este artículo los documentos que aluden a su actividad militar y los textos de sus obras en los que recuerda y analiza este momento.

    In Italy, Miguel de Cervantes joined the Spanish Army in 1570 as an infantry soldier in one of the companies that formed the Spanish regiments which, in Sicily, Naples or Flanders, took part in the defense of the territories integrated in the Spanish Crown. As for the rest of the life of the writer, there are not many data about this period, which lasted from 1570 to 1575. However, there is enough information to reconstruct the years when Cervantes went through the Mediterranean Sea participating in different campaigns under the orders of don Juan de Austria. This article gathers the documents that deal with the military activities of the writer and the texts of his writings, where he recalls and analyzes this period.
