    Nos últimos anos tem se manifestado um aumento nas pesquisas no Brasil sobre cidades na Amazônia, voltadas, sobretudo, para compreender a diversidade do urbano, considerando o contexto social, cultural e étnico desses aglomerados. Contudo, apesar deste esforço ainda existem lacunas teóricas acerca da formulação de questões analíticas que explorem, desde uma perspectiva sociológica e etnográfica na sua positividade, a dimensão simbólica das práticas (compreenda-se os efeitos e eficácia) sobre o espaço social. Nesta línea analítica, este trabalho explora, a partir de uma situação empírica (cidade Altamira-Amazônia Brasileira) a dimensão simbólica do “rural-urbano” ou, melhor, a dimensão produtiva do 'urbano no rural', isto é, seus efeitos constitutivos para instituir identidades ou território no espaço da cidade, no marco de processos de reagrupamentos urbanos e viabilização de políticas. Pressupomos que o espaço da cidade assume e produz diferentes significados, conforme o contexto em que os diversos agentes envolvidos na produção vivenciam esse espaço, lutam e materializam práticas. Nessas disputas põe-se em jogo a divisão desse espaço e, ao mesmo tempo, revelam a eficácia simbólica ou a ação produtiva da prática. Desta perspectiva, também é tema de interesse as implicações simbólicas que têm os efeitos do saber especializado, no marco desses processos, isto é, das “novas” dinâmicas culturais urbanas em que a produção de símbolos torna-se significativa.

    An increase in studies on cities in the Amazon region has recently been observed, aimed at understanding, above all else, the diversity of the urban, cultural and ethnic populations of these population clusters. There are still however, in spite of much effort, considerable theoretical gaps in structuring analytical questions that, from a sociological and ethnographic perspective, fully explore, in their positivity, the symbolic extent of the practices (the effects and effectiveness) on the social landscape.

    From an analytical and empirical perspective, this study seeks to explore the city of Altamira in the Brazilian Amazon, the symbolic rural-urban dimension or better, the productive dimension of the 'urban -rural', that is, its constitutive effects in establishing identities or territories in Altamira within a framework that includes of urban regrouping processes and policy feasibility. Our perception is that the Altamira region assumes and proposes different meanings according to a context in which various agents, involved in the production and living experience within this region, fight for and create practices that bring into play the divisions of this area and, at the same time, demonstrate the symbolic effectiveness or the productive action of the practical. From this perspective, the symbolic implications and their specialized knowledge are also topics of interest within this process framework, i.e. being part of the "new" urban cultural dynamics in which the production of symbols becomes significant.
