  • The article discusses the importance of raising productivity in the U.S. as part of the economic priorities of Donald Trump, who was elected as president in the November 2016 presidential election. Topics include remarks from Jeffrey Immelt, chief executive officer at General Electric Co., on the need to raise productivity to avert years of below-trend growth with all the associated problems, such as declining living standards and rising debt, the decline of productivity rates in the U.S. and around the world due to the lack of investments in new technological innovations, and the increase of productivity in manufacturing between 2000 and 2007.
