Como excusa para homenajear los cuarenta años de la primera edición de Ameri- kanuak, elegimos repensar la hotelería vasca pampeana, también observada en el oeste americano. Del legado invalorable de Douglass y Bilbao, destaca esa mirada amplia que no descuida el detalle, anticipándose a la historia antropológica y am- biental, la microhistoria y la vida cotidiana. El escenario donde se instalaban los hoteles étnicos, junto a la observación detrás de bambalinas de sus actores, son una muestra cabal de ello.

As an excuse to honor the fortieth anniversary of the frst edition of Amerikanuak, we chose to rethink the pampeanos Basque hotels, also observed in the American West. Of the invaluable legacy of Douglass and Bilbao, it highlights the broad view that does not neglect detail, anticipating the anthropological and environ- mental history, micro-history and everyday life. The scenario where ethnic hotels were installed, along with the observation behind the scenes of the actors, is a perfect example of this.

Amerikanuak obraren lehen edizioaren berrogei urteak omentzeko aitzakiarekin, panpako euskal hotelak (eta Amerikako mendebaldekoak) berraztertzea erabaki genuen. Douglassek eta Bilbaok utzitako ondare baloraezin horretan, xehetasuna ahazten ez duen ikuspegi zabal hori azpimarratu behar da. Izan ere, Douglassek eta Bilbaok aurrea hartu zioten historia antropologikoari, ingurumen-historiari, mikrohistoriari eta eguneroko bizitzaren historiari.
