  • This contribution asks whether Anton Reiser can be perceived as an early institutional novel, and to which degree. It draws on the assumption that in making the relevance of real educational institutions visible, Moritz’s novel shows how these institutions shape Reiser’s life, and at the same time, Anton Reiser portrays narration as an institution which forms biographies and shapes itself in depicting the protagonist’s life
