La fin de la dernière glaciation dans le Cantal (France): la tourbière de La Taphanel et son environnement

    Une étude palynologique, paléoentomologique et sédimentologique a été réalisée conjointement sur le site de la tourbière de la Taphanel, Nord du Cantal (Massif Central français), grâce à une série de sondages avec un carottier de gros diamètre. Elle apporte des précisions nouvelles sur la période Tardiglaciaire et le début de l'Holocène. L'étude de la faune des insectes a permis de mettre en lumière des variations fines du climat, et notamment, un bref refroidissement pouvant correspondre au Dryas ancien supérieur. L'étude de l'environnement géomorphologique de la tourbière permet de préciser les modalités de la déglaciation wiirmienne et de mettre en évidence une phase de stationnement du glacier en amont du site avant le tout début du Tardiglaciaire.

    Asedimentological, palynological and palaeoentomological study of core samples at La Taphanel Peat Bog (French Massif Central) reveals new data about the palaeoenvironment in theArtense piedmont between thewiirmian déglaciation and Boreal times. The samples were extracted in multiple core drilling with a large diameter russian sampler. First, a proglacial lake in front of the moraine of Cheylade stade, the site is progressively filled with sediments from more and more local origin. After an initial cold-steppe stage, vegetalization of the area continued up to the present day. The entomological study gives more details about the age of the lateglacial interstadial climate and, in particular, about the appearance of two returns of very cold conditions during this episode the first of which may be related to the older Dryas, the second more certainly to the Younger Dryas. The position of the site implies a recession of glaciers and a complete déglaciation of the Artense plateau at the end of wiirmian times: before the beginning of the oldest Dryas the ice front has retreated to a position near the site of Brechailles, a site correlated with the other morainic fronts on the Cantal piedmont, previously attributed to a «recurrence» (Veyret, 1981; Etlicherand De Goër, 1988). The chronological implications of these results are discussed, and a new déglaciation model for the northern piedmont of the Cantal is proposed: according to this model, the ice fronts corresponding to the stage previously called «recurrence» cannot be considered as a lateglacial re-advance of ice tongues.
