  El Herbario Las Palmas de El Museo Canario es una colección de Historia Natural patrocinada por la Sociedad Científica El Museo Canario y encomendada al naturalista alemán Günther Kunkel entre 1965 y 1968. Al término de tal proyecto y una vez concluido el estudio nomenclatural y taxonómico de dicha colección, se concluye que la misma consta de 2831 pliegos mas 237 duplicados y 42 fotocopias de pliegos ya desaparecidos. Los 2831 pliegos se desglosan en 2600 Dicotiledóneas, 123 Monocotiledóneas, 9 Gimnospermas, 97 Pteridófitos y 2 Algas. El trabajo quedó circunscrito a la isla de Gran Canaria, con 2812 pliegos de esta isla, 11 de Tenerife, 4 de Fuerteventura y 4 de Lobos. Las herborizaciones incluyen a todos los municipios de la isla pero con un tercio de las mismas en el municipio de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1042 pliegos). La determinación de los taxones fue realizada por Kunkel en un 89,7 %, pero el herbario quedó al margen de los estudios y avances sobre la flora canaria al concluir el proyecto. La revisión nomenclatural y taxonómica lleva a la re-etiquetación de cerca de un tercio de la colección, en concreto 889 pliegos. Los fondos actuales del Herbario Las Palmas de El Museo Canario recogen 839 taxones diferentes (816 especies, 15 subespecies, 6 variedades y dos híbridos), que representan a 442 géneros y 119 familias de plantas. Esta colección resulta de gran interés no sólo por el volumen de material de plantas y la amplitud del muestreo en Gran Canaria, sino además por contener el material de referencia de muchas citas nuevas para la flora de Gran Canaria y de Canarias en general y material de taxones que posteriormente resultaron ser nuevos para la ciencia. Además, de su revisión han resultado dos nuevas citas para Canarias, cuatro nuevas citas para Gran Canaria, la confirmación de otras dos citas previas y dudosas, o el hallar los tipos nomenclaturales de Poa pitardiana Scholz, representados por un isótipo y dos parátipos.

  The Herbarium Las Palmas of El Museo Canario is a collection of Natural History sponsored by the scientific society of El Museo Canario that was comissioned to the German naturalist Günther Kunkel between 1965 and 1968. At the end of this project, and once the nomenclatural and taxonomic study of this collection were completed, it is concluded that it consists of 2831 sets, plus 237 duplicates and 42 photocopies of already missing herbarium sheets. The 2831 sheets include 2600 dicots, 123 monocots, nine Gymnosperms, 97 Pteridophytes and two algae. The project was limited to the island of Gran Canaria, and encompasses 2812 specimens from this island, 11 from Tenerife, four from Fuerteventura and four from Lobos. The collection field trips include all the municipalities of the island, but a third of them were developed within the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1042 specimens). The 89.7% of taxonomic determinations were conducted by Kunkel, but the Herbarium was left aside from the studies and developments on the Canarian flora when the project concluded. The nomenclatural and taxonomic review of this material brings about the re-labelling of a third of the collection (889 specimens). The current funds of the Herbarium Las Palmas of the El Museo Canario comprise 839 taxa (816 species, 15 subspecies, six varieties and two hybrids), representing 442 genera and 119 families of plants. This collection is of great interest not only due to the amount of plant material and the extent of the sampling in Gran Canaria, but also because it contains reference material of many new citations for the flora of Gran Canaria and the Canaries in general, and material of taxa that later on turned out to be new to science. In addition, its revision resulted in two new citations for Canary Islands, four new citations for Gran Canaria, the confirmation of two dubious earlier citations, or the finding of the nomenclatural types of Poa pitardiana Scholz, represented by an isotype and two paratypes.
