    La primera de las virtudes sociales es la justicia. Una ley o institución que no se ajuste a la misma, debe ser reformada o abolida. En el siglo XVI, en la archidiócesis de Lima se emitió abundante legislación canónica que concernía de manera particular al indígena. Puesto que las leyes de la Iglesia ejercían un influjo directo sobre la vida del ciudadano tanto o más que las civiles, en este artículo se analizarán los cánones de los tres primeros Sínodos diocesanos limenses que guardan relación con las “fiestas de guardar”, para comprobar su incidencia en la mayor o menor justicia que pudo impregnar el mundo laboral. Para alcanzar tal fin, nos hemos servido de los principios de justicia propuestos por John Rawls. Ellos nos ayudarán a descubrir si las constituciones sinodales emitidas fomentaron (o no) leyes e instituciones que mejoraron (o empeoraron) la vida de trabajo de los indios.

    The first of the social virtues is justice. A law or institution that does not conform to it, should be reformed or abolished. In the sixteenth century, the archdiocese of Lima issued abundant canonical legislation that particularly concerned the indigenous way of life. Since the laws of the Church exercised a direct influence on the lives of citizens, as much or more than the civil laws, this article will analyze the canons of the first three Limenses Diocesan Synods which relate to the “religious holidays” to check its impact on the degree of justice that could permeate the working world. To achieve this purpose, we have used the principles of justice proposed by John Rawls. They help us to discover if issued Synodal constitutions encouraged (or not) laws and institutions that improved (or worsened) the working lives of the Indians.
