Intervención terapéutica en las disfunciones sexuales femeninas: perspectiva psicosexológica

    En este trabajo pretendemos discutir las razones de la no existencia de protocolos terapéuticos para las disfunciones sexuales femeninas, y presentar las intervenciones clínicas de que disponemos.

    La larga negligencia del estudio de la sexualidad femenina ha tenido importantes consecuencias: la dificultad en conceptuar la respuesta sexual femenina y crear un modelo teórico; la falta de medidas estandarizadas, y la falta de consenso en la definición de criterios de diagnóstico y clasificación de las disfunciones sexuales femeninas. Por consiguiente, no es posible tener intervenciones terapéuticas estructuradas. Subyacente al tópico “problema frente a disfunción”, está el reconocimiento del modelo biopsicosocial para la comprensión de la función sexual femenina. En este escenario, ¿cómo hacemos terapia sexual en las disfunciones femeninas? Presentamos los objetivos de la terapia sexual y las técnicas terapéuticas de las que disponemos en el abordaje clínico de los problemas y disfunciones femeninas en una perspectiva psicosexológica.

    We intend to discuss the main reasons to the non-existence of therapeutic protocols for FSD, and to examine the clinical interventions available at the present time.

    The long negligence on the study of female sexuality had significant consequences: difficulty on conceptualizing women's sexual response and to create a theoretical model; the lack of standardized measures; the lack of consensus regarding diagnostic definitions and classification of sub-types of FSD; consequently it is not possible to have structured therapeutic interventions. Underlying the subject “problem vs. dysfunction”, there is also the recognition of the biopsycosocial complex model to the understanding of the female sexual function.

    We examine the reasons underlying the difficulty of doing clinical research: the absence of a universally accepted method for defining the FSD population; the difficulty defining end points in clinical trials and; the difficulty on achievement an integrated and multidisciplinary work of different specialists.

    On this scenario, and regarding the actual context of social change, how are we doing sex therapy on the female dysfunctions? Finally, we present the objectives of sex therapy and the available methods and therapeutic interventions to the clinical management of the female problems and dysfunctions in a psico-sexological perspective.
