The UK has approached the problem of finding intermediate housing between expensive purchasing and cheap but insecure renting by a series of schemes known as shared ownership. The object is to give buyers secure access to a home at an affordable price, and at the same time to buy a share in the home. This paper supplements a recent research project which looked at the experience and varied mechanisms of shared ownership in England, to see if they could be adapted to Catalonia, a very different legal system.
