K.N.H.P. Liyanage, K.O.D.D. Fernando

  • The effective use of knowledge is a key ingredient in any successful organisation. Managing knowledge is very important because knowledge is one of the powerful strategies that can enhance organisational productivity. Information Technology (IT) is said to play a significant role in Knowledge Management (KM). Yet there is little research that focuses on how IT as an enabler in KM Initiatives influences the overall performance of organizations. This paper presents a model that depicts the relationship of three key factors namely, IT Infrastructure, Corporate Knowledge Base and usefulness of the system with the performance of organizations. To explore this, an empirical study was done in the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), which is the regulator of the foreign employment industry of Sri Lanka. The results revealed that there exists a clear relationship between the success of KM efforts and usage of IT. Furthermore, the study also confirmed IT needs not only to be available, but it may require significant organizational and technical interference.
