El principio protestante como núcleo de la teología profética de Paul Tillich. Un acercamiento dialéctico

    En el presente trabajo reflexionamos sobre “el principio protestante” formulado por el teólogo y filósofo luterano Paul Tillich. Tomamos como texto base su libro La era protestante y, particularmente, la sección titulada: “Protestantismo.” La estructura del mismo –decididamente dialéctica- está dividida en tres secciones: la primera, es una afirmación del principio protestante y sus características, el segundo, es una negación de ese principio a partir de las prácticas que se oponen al mismo y, en el tercer momento, a modo de negación de la negación. Se intenta superar las instancias anteriores desde la propia reflexión de Tillich sobre el tema. Se pretende demostrar que la teología de Tillich puede ser considerada como una “teología profética”, que sigue la larga línea histórica de los profetas de Israel y del propio Jesús de Nazaret, ya que insta a una función crítica del protestantismo para la Iglesia y el mundo. La intención final es preguntarnos de qué modo el principio protestante puede ser revitalizado en nuestra cultura posmoderna.

    This article is a reflection about “the protestant principle” by the Lutheran theologian and philosopher Paul Tillich. The fundamental text is the book: The Protestant Era, particularly the section: “Protestantism”. In a dialectic approach the article has three sections: first, the affirmation of the protestant principle and its characteristics, second: the negation of this principle from the practices that are in opposition of this principle, third, as negation of negation. The intention is overcome the first instances from the reflection of Tillich about this subject. The work is an invitation to consider the theology of Tillich as a “prophetic theology” in a historical line of the Israel’s prophets and Jesus of Nazareth. Alberto F. Roldán challenges to a critical function of Protestantism for the Church and the world in our postmodern culture.
