A Reforma de Lutero, 500 anos depois: A perspectiva da sua catolicidade a partir do documento “Do Conflito à Comunhão”, da Comissão Internacional Católica-Luterana

    The article reflects about the Reformation of Luther (1517), with the objective to understand the Christian faith catholicity on it. For centuries, in Roman Catholic environments, it is common to affirm the Reformation as a cause and expression of divisions in the Church and that to the Lutheran Church tradition there is no catholicity so as it is recognised in the Church tradition linked to Rome. However, Catholic theologians’ studies on Luther and the progress in the ecumencial relations between Catholic and Lutheran believers nowadays converge on the comprehension that Luther did not want to divide the Church and that he did not distance himself totally from the Catholic tradition regarding to the affirmation of Christian faith. Then, the ecumenical dialogue proposes the following challenge: may Catholic and Lutheran Christians celebrate the 500 years of the Reformation together? Relating the Catholic-Lutheran international dialogue document, From Conflict to Communion, to recent studies on Luther we conclude that this joint celebration is only going to be possible if both Church traditions are put on a common catholicity horizon. The basis is the acknowledgement of common Faith elements between them. The celebration sounds penitential due to what it may signify as lack of communion; and it sounds as hope in virtue of the elements that the Reformation shows to the communion growth between the two Church traditions.

    O artigo reflete sobre a Reforma de Lutero (1517), com o objetivo de compreender nela a dimensão da catolicidade da fé cristã. Por séculos, nos meios católicos romanos é comum a afirmação da Reforma apenas como causa e expressão de divisões na Igreja, e que à tradição eclesial luterana não cabe a nota da catolicidade, admitida à tradição eclesial vinculada à Igreja de Roma. Contudo, estudos de teólogos católicos sobre Lutero e o progresso das relações ecumênicas entre católicos e luteranos na atualidade, convergem na compreensão que Lutero não queria dividir a Igreja, e que ele não se distanciou em tudo da tradição católica na afirmação da fé cristã. Então o diálogo ecumênico propõe hoje o desafio: podem cristãos católicos e luteranos comemorarem juntos os 500 anos da Reforma? Relacionando o documento do diálogo internacional católico-luterano, Do Conflito à Comunhão, e estudos recentes sobre Lutero, conclui-se que essa comemoração conjunta só será possível se as duas tradições eclesiais forem situadas num horizonte comum de catolicidade. A base é o reconhecimento de elementos comuns na fé de católicos e luteranos. A comemoração tem tom penitencial pelo que pode significar de falta de comunhão; e tom de esperança pelos elementos que a Reforma apresenta para o crescimento da comunhão entre as duas tradições eclesiais.
