Desde Nirvana, el máximo representante del movimiento grunge en la década de 1990, no ha existido una banda de rock con el mismo impacto musical, social y cultural hasta nuestros días. El siguiente análisis pretende explicar las claves discursivas de dicho impacto. Para hacerlo, sugiere que Nirvana representa el más grande pastiche de la música popular anglosajona contemporánea, ya que homenajeó permanentemente a la gran mayoría de los movimientos y escenas musicales que surgieron en Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se propone, entonces, que el impacto discursivo de Nirvana se debe a su alto grado de intertextualidad, en el que se amalgamaron discursos musicales globales y locales pero, además, a una congruencia semántica que se dio con la muerte del líder de la banda, Kurt Cobain.

From Nirvana, the highest representative of the grunge movement in the 1990’s, there has not been a rock band with the same musical, social and cultural impact until our days. This analysis seeks to explain the discursive keys of this impact. To do so, it suggests that Nirvana represents the largest pastiche of Anglo-Saxon popular music, due to honored permanently to the vast majority of the movements and musical scenes that emerged in the United States and the UK in the second half of the twentieth century. It thus proposes that the discursive impact of Nirvana is due to its high degree of intertextuality, which mixed global and local musical discourses but also to a consistent semantics that came with the Kurt Cobain’s death, the band leader.
