"In 2012, domestic diammonium phosphate (DAP) capacity increased by 3.06m tonnes over 2011. And in 2014 it will increase by 4.8m tonnes over 2012. As domestic demand is 8-10m tonnes, an annual export of over 6m tonnes is needed to keep the balance between supply and demand," he said.
"Between 2011 and 2015, the average growth rate of fertiliser consumption in China is 2-3% a year, of which nitrogen fertiliser is about 1%, phosphate fertiliser is 1-2% and potash is 5-8%," [Dong Xiaozhou] said.
The overcapacity of DAP in China will lead to an industry reshuffle, Dong said. As the capacity of the top 10 DAP producers reaches an estimated 18.28m tonnes in 2015, some medium and small-sized enterprises are likely to be eliminated by the market.
