Resumen de China's acidspar imports rise 280% in nine years

Shruti Salwan, Andrew Miller

  • Between 2003 and 2012 imports of metallurgical grade fluorspar (metspar) have risen by 13,000 tonnes every year on average, from 2,938 tonnes in 2003 to 119,852 tonnes in 2012. This equates to an average rise of 67% annually, despite a 16.5% drop in 2007 and a 23% decline in 2010.

Acidspar imports in Q1 2013 have already exceeded the country's total imports for 2012, with 4,889 tonnes being imported in March alone.

As China's domestic bid to preserve its fluorspar resources and enhance its fluorochemical market continues following the WTO's ruling on their export restraints, the country is developing a dependency on other major fluorspar producing countries, namely Mongolia.
