[Karen Swager] has been appointed vice president of phosphate mining for The Mosaic Co. In her new role she will provide direction and guidance for Mosaic's phosphate mining operations in Central Florida and joint ventures globally.
Demonstrating the company's confidence in the phosphate market, Mosaic recently entered into a joint venture agreement with Ma'aden to develop the $7bn Ma'aden Wa'ad Al Shammal Phosphate Project in Saudi Arabia. Mosaic is to invest up to $1bn in the project.
Swager has also been involved in work to help farmers create a more stable food supply. She recently accepted the Spirit of the Suncoast award from United Way Suncoast as co-chair of Mosaic's 2012 United Way Campaign, on behalf of Mosaic and its employees. United Way Worldwide is the largest privately-funded non-profit organisation in the US with a mission to help the world grow the food it needs to meet demand.
