  • Resumen
    • For this section of the plastics industry, TiO 2 pigment has rapidly become the most volatile commodity: "The volatility of TiO 2 has had a serious impact on the industry," said Heinrich Lingnau, vice president EMEA of masterbatch producer A Schulman.

Lingnau stressed that, despite the rise of extenders, white masterbatches would always contain TiO 2 : "We will continue to use TiO 2 (...) there is no discussion (...) extenders cannot replace TiO 2," he said.

The company first looked into extenders and substitutes: "We've only managed to remove 3% [of TiO 2 content] from our volumes," he said. To reduce these volumes any further would involve a sacrifice in opacity: "We've gone as far as we can in that regard," he added.
