El Convenio Multilateral Iberoamericano de Seguridad Social constituye una experiencia pionera en materia de coordinación de los distintos sistemas de Seguridad Social. Se trata éste de un instrumento que nace ante la necesidad de brindar protección a los derechos individuales de millones de trabajadores migrantes y sus familias, en un aspecto tan sensible como es la garantía de la seguridad económica en la vejez, la incapacidad o muerte. El Convenio se configura como uno de los instrumentos jurídicos vinculantes más importantes hasta el momento establecidos por la Comunidad Iberoamericana a fin de garantizar la libre circulación de trabajadores

The Iberoamerican Multilateral Agreement on Social Security is an innovative experience in the framework of coordination of different Social Security systems. It is indeed a tool born to face the need of offering shelter to the individual rights of millions of migrant workers and their families in so frail situations such as old-age, disability or even death, when it is critical to guarantee an economic safety. This binding agreement has become one of the most important legal instruments until now established by the Iberoamerican Community to ensure the free movement of workers
