The urban fabric is made of objects resulting from identifiable production processes. Once these processes are well defined, it is possible to map the corresponding objects according to the moment of their production. Such mapping has been carried out for the historic centre of Lyon due to major archival research. This shows the complex geomorphology of a fully historicized urban space. Dating has been possible for the creation of buildings, streets and squares and public spaces, as well as for the perimeters of development or redevelopment schemes. Other objects can also be analysed in the same way such as plot limits, façade surfaces and street paving and surfacing. However, as information was too difficult to obtain, this has not been done here. The article ends by determining three distinct temporalities: superficial, structural and persistent.

L’espace matériel des villes est fait d’objets correspondant à des processus de production précis. Une fois ces processus bien identifiés et définis, il devient possible de cartographier les objets selon leur moment d’apparition. Une telle cartographie, ici testée sur le centre historique de Lyon, a été rendue possible par d’importantes recherches d’archives. Elle fait apparaître clairement une géomorphologie complexe, complètement historicisée. La datation en fonction des objets produits a été faite pour les bâtiments, pour les espaces publics de la voirie, et pour les opérations d’urbanisme. D’autres réalités sont aussi datables, bien que l’information détaillée des processus sous-jacents soit difficile, ou n’ait été dans ce cas réunie, comme les limites parcellaires, la surface des façades et les aménagements de la voirie. On en vient en conclusion à distinguer trois temporalités distinctes : superficielle, structurelle et rémanente.
