Magali Watteaux, Medieval agricultural colonization in Alentejo (Portugal) This paper examines the morphology of agrarian planned parcels of land in the Middle Ages, focusing on the case of Alentejo in southern Portugal. In Alentejo, history offers an ideal context for the analysis of agrarian morphology on account of the Reconquista and the process of Repoblación. Historians have extensively studied the phenomenon of allocation and redistribution of land parcels in the context of agrarian colonization. However, the resulting forms of land parcels have yet to be studied. Exploring three research avenues – historical, epistemological and archaeogeographical – the paper demonstrates the potential of this subject and promotes greater recognition of the importance of the morphology of agricultural land planning in the Middle Ages in a country where this issue has so far been largely ignored.

Magali Watteaux, La colonisation agraire médiévale en Alentejo (Portugal) Cet article s’intéresse à la morphologie des parcellaires agraires planifiés au Moyen Âge dans la région de l’Alentejo, au sud du Portugal. Ce terrain offre un cadre idéal d’analyse de ces formes, en raison de la Reconquista et du processus de Repoblación qui l’accompagne. Si, pour leur part, les historiens n’ont pas manqué d’étudier le phénomène d’assignation et de redistribution des terres qui s’est produit lors de la colonisation agraire, ils n’ont toutefois pas interrogé les parcellaires qui en ont résulté. L’auteure suit trois pistes de recherche : historique, épistémologique et archéogéographique. Abordant les multiples facettes du sujet, le propos contribue à faire émerger l’objet agraire planifié médiéval dans un pays où il reste méconnu.
