• Resumen

  • Some mood stabilizers can also be used in the prevention of relapses and recurrences of monopolar depression. The present article reviews the role of lithium and other classical mood stabilizers such as carbamazepine and valproic acid in the prevention of depressive disorder, as well as the new anticonvulsants with potential efficacy as mood stabilizers. Lastly, the potential antidepressant efficacy of atypical antipsychotic drugs is discussed.
