    The public space of the scientific communication can be defined in connection with the transformation of the technoscientific risks. There are several levels that reflect the evolution of scientific culture. The classical approach consists in say that there is a significant difference between common knowledge and scientific knowledge which explains the attitude of the public towards science. The alternative approach focuses on the difference in the importance of the specific role of the scientific actors how to inform various audiences. The third model is possible when the two models are coupled. According to the synthetic approach, the public is not perceived as a consumer of the science simplified, but it should now be able to participate in scientific choices. The main objective of this article is to explain the different steps that allow us to better understand how the public’s role in the relationship between science and society is changed.

    L’espace public de la communication scientifique peut être défini en liaison avec l’évolution simultanée des transformations des risques technoscientifiques. L’approche classique consiste à dire qu’il existe un écart important entre les connaissances communes et les savoirs scientifiques. L’approche alternative met l’accent dans cet écart sur l’importance du rôle propre des acteurs scientifiques de savoir comment informer les différents publics. Selon le troisième modèle, le public n’est plus perçu comme un consommateur d’une science simplifiée, mais il devrait désormais être en mesure de dialoguer avec les scientifiques et de participer aux choix scientifiques. L’objectif principal de cet article consiste à expliciter de quelle manière la participation du public dans les rapports entre sciences et société a évolué.
