Phosphate offshore mining projects face opposition in Namibia and NZ

    • Chris Castle, CRP's CEO, said: "This application is for a project of national significance offering fertiliser security for New Zealand's primary industry, significant export potential and import substitution, as well as environmental benefits." He added that a significant amount of risk is presented to New Zealand's sustainable fisheries as CRP's mining technology is still "experimental", while the proposal is the first licence application under new legislation which is yet untested.

      Chairman of the Confederation of Namibian Fishing Associations, Matti Amukwa, considers NMP's justifications for the project near Walvis Bay "misleading" and has called for an independent verification of the company's claims.
