Weak fluorochemical sales have caused stockpiles of both HF and aluminium fluoride (AIF 3 ) to rise while prices continue to fall. As a result, a number of Chinese HF producers have either stopped or limited their production until the market shows signs of recovery.
This development in fluorochemical output is likely to have repercussions on China's domestic fluorspar demand over the coming months, a market which last year consumed over 1.75m tonnes of acid grade fluorspar (acidspar) alone.
Although this may lead to a further contraction in fluorspar sales in the short-term, a slowdown in production is likely to offset the overcapacity of HF, which haunts today's fluorochemical market.
