"In the lifecycle business, we deliver the technology, the feasibility study phase, the engineering, project implementation, the building of the plant, and also all kinds of technical services like upgrades, demolition, even operating and maintaining the plant for the customer. From that we already have agreements in Russia. We are going to operate and maintain some concentrators in Russia," a spokesperson told IM during a recent visit to Outotec's research facility in Frankfurt.
"We always try to be on top of the research," he told IM. "Our sales last year were [Euro] 2bn and we try to increase the service part of that all the time, which was nearly U500 of the total. Research was very important for Outotec, we have over 6,000 patents, and spent U42m in R&D and on top of that work and money was spent on projects which we developed together with customers." "Companies aren't considering the big greenfield investments so much anymore. But they still need capacity, and minerals and metals are needed all the time, so they are upgrading their current plants," the spokesperson said. "Legislation everywhere is becoming stricter and stricter, which requires modernisation, and we have many projects that have been started for environmental reasons."
