  • Resumen
    • In addition to tabular alumina, Zili has produced refractories for Chinese and overseas customers since 1985, and has a major supply contract with Baoshan Iron and Steel Co. Zili produces 180,000 tpa bricks and monolithics, and from 2009, commenced tabular alumina (and alumina-spinel) production, from three production lines.

The remaining 95% mined bauxite is processed using the Bayer Process to manufacture alumina trihydrate (ATH), the precursor for smelter grade alumina (SGA) for aluminium production, consuming the majority, and for calcined alumina for a range of non-metallurgical grade alumina (NMGA) products which serve a wide variety of end uses.

This NMGA market is estimated to total 5.5-5.8m. tpa. Of this, some 2.8m tpa is defined as "speciality" or "premium" grades, which are based on calcined aluminas. Calcined aluminas are the feedstock to produce high value, high purity grades of tabular alumina and WFA.
