The ongoing consolidation of the kaolin industry was questioned in 2013 as Imerys' purchase of the last independent UK kaolin producer, Goonvean, was referred to the Competition Commission (CC).
April was an eventful month for leading industrial minerals producer Imerys, as The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) referred the company's acquisition of Goonvean's kaolin assets to the Competition Commission (CC) after an investigation carried out by the organisation identified competition concerns.
Imerys also announced in April that it was to purchase PyraMax Ceramics LLC. The new 200,000 square foot facility is located near to Imerys' Sandersville kaolin mine, as well as the company's 100,000 tpa proppant manufacturing facility, both of which are based in Georgia, US.
