Kasia Patel

  • In 2012, the European Union once again returned to the number one spot after two years in terms of regional exports of ceramic machinery, accounting for 17.2% of total export turnover, or [Euro] 221.5m ($300.5m*), ACIMAC said in its 21 st Statistical Survey. This was a 6% decrease in exports from 2011; however it reflects the general global decline in ceramic machinery in which global exports fell 7.4% to [Euro] 1.3bn.

"Following the exceptional results of two years ago when [East Asia] became the top export area, and an initial contraction last year, the region suffered a 59.7% slump in 2012 to a total of [Euro] 66.3m, accounting for 5.1% of the sector's total exports," ACIMAC reported.

Figures from ACIMAC indicate that processing equipment for the shaping of ceramic materials accounted for 19.8% of turnover in 2012, glazing and decoration machinery for 18.8% of global revenue, firing machinery for 12%, earth preparation machinery for 11.4%, storage and handing for 11.2%, finishing technologies for 6.7% and moulds for 5.6%.
