Because no coherent means of interpretation had been formulated, two registers dating from the last quarter of the XIIth century concerning the "terroir" of Saint-Julien at Psalmodi have not up until now been analysed. The first is a statement of land tax due for the mansus and the cabanaria and from simple taxpayers established within the district of the villa. Fiscal units of the former had to pay two traditional taxes : the albergum, that is to say rent for the right of lodging and procurement, and the usaticum, customary dues in the form of labour. The second register completes the first. It only gives the names of the possessores of mansi and cabanariae, who are fiscally responsable. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the property they owned iure hereditario, nor about the peasantry who entered into these fiscal units. But it is useful to corne to terms with the character and limits of the fiscal documents of the period.
