  In un’area dominata dal monte Volturino e lambita dal torrente La Molinara, affluente del fiume Agri, è stata rinvenuta una villa rustica di notevoli dimensioni occupata dall’età graccana a quella alto-medievale, con sporadiche frequentazioni nel IV e III sec. a.C. Bolli su tegole, un signaculum, un’epigrafe funeraria e infine un anulus signatorius rimandano alla ricca e potente famiglia dei Bruttii Praesentes e in particolare a due ben noti membri C. Bruttius Praesens. Si tratta del nonno e del padre, di Bruttia Crispina, che andò in moglie all’imperatore Commodo nel 178 d.C. Uno dei oggetti iscritti conferma l’importanza della villa che almeno in una fase della sua lunga storia divenne parte del patrimonium principis.

  Situated in an area dominated by mount Volturino and flanked by the La Molinara torrent, tributary of the river Agri, a large Roman villa rustica was discovered. It was occupied in alternating phases from the Gracchan period until the late Middle Ages, with sporadic occupation during the 4th and 3rd century B.C. Stamped tile fragments, an inscribed halfmoon shaped bronze seal, a funerary inscription and a Late Antique anulus signatorius with a monogramme, refer the rich and powerful family of the Bruttii Praesentes, and in particular two well-known members, that is C. Bruttius Praesens. They were either the grandfather or father of Bruttia Crispina, wife of the emperor Commodus in 178 A.D. One of the epigraphic document confirm the importance of the villa, which during a phase of its long history became part of the patrimonium principis.
