Por lo general, la perífrasis estar+gerundio expresa una acción progresiva que se está desarrollando y presenciando en el momento del habla. En este estudio se demostrará que no siempre es así, pues las perífrasis está teniendo y está llegando expresan otros valores (cognitivos y epistémicos) –además de sus valores aspectuales– relacionados con el conocimiento ‘no inmediato’ del hablante sobre una realidad.

In general, the Spanish periphrastic construction estar+gerundio indicates that an action is taking place or is being observed by the speaker at the time of speaking. This study will show that this is not always the case as the periphrastic constructions está teniendo and está llegando acquire other (cognitive and epistemic) meanings – apart from their aspectual ones – which are related to the speaker’s attitude towards the ‘no-immediate’ knowledge of a situation.
