By taking in consideration the specific tasks entrusted by the Codefor those being confirmed there, emerges the line of thought that makes of this sacrament a gift for Christian maturity and faith. The place which traditionally Confirmation has in the order of sacraments of Christian initiation does not seem to help the indications expressed above; a different perspective comes out of the celebration at a more mature age, bringing about an opportunity of a more pastoral degree. There seem to be numerous possibilities, all of which legitimate, but it is certain that besides considering the rights of the person confirmed, as clarified also in the Thomistic perspective, this remains also the sacrament of the ecclesial and public commitment, that is, of the apostolate.

Prendendo in considerazione i compiti propri richiesti dal Codice per i cresimati emerge la linea di pensiero che fa di questo sacramento un dono per la maturita cristiana e di fede. Il posto che ha tradizionalmente la confermazione nell'ordine dei sacramenti dell'iniziazione cristiana non pare aiutare le indicazioni sopra espresse; una diversa prospettiva ne pone la celebrazione in eta piú matura facendone emergere le opportunità soprattutto di ordine pastorale. Paiono molteplici le possibilità, tutte legittime, ma e certo che oltre a considerare i diritti del cresimato, come chiarito anche nella prospettiva tomista, questo rimane pure il sacramento dell'impegno ecclesiale e pubblico, cioe dell'apostolato.
