  • Resumen
    • In his presentation, Darwish Al-Qubaisi, general manager of ADNOC's oilfield services subsidiary ESNAAD, projected an almost 27% increase in barite demand in Abu Dhabi from 56,000 tonnes in 2013 to 71,000 tonnes in 2018.

Yasser Rasheed, director of sales and marketing, RP Minerals of Egypt, echoed Al-Qubaisi's concerns over raw material supply to the region, explaining the diverse nature of the Middle East and North Africa's oil and gas resources, and questioning whether the current API standards for barite (and bentonite) were adequate and "whether the operating company knew what [raw material] it was buying." Saudi Aramco, a client of ESNAAD's, consumes about 600,000 tpa barite for drilling, which is expected to increase to about 800,000 tpa over the next two years. Perhaps not surprisingly, Aramco is pushing for more barite processing plants in the country.
