  • Resumen
    • Immersive technology has existed for many years and in many guises, from stereoscopic viewers to head-mounted visual display units and shared experiences in immersive “caves”. However, it is only in the last 12–18 months that the technology has truly taken off and become accessible to the mainstream, developing more functionality and becoming much more affordable.

In this article, Jon Leach and Martin Fowler of AECOM examine how immersive technology can be used as a powerful collaborative tool, discussing its application on a number of live projects, its benefits, its current limitations, and how it already has a place as a valid communication tool within existing engineering design workflows.
