    La configuración del espacio latinoamericano y caribeño es sumamente cambiante y se determina, sobre todo, a partir de algunos acontecimientos.

    El panorama que se avecina en la región es muy difícil de prever pero, en los últimos tiempos, asistimos a determinadas situaciones que nos deparan algunos de los rasgos que la definen. En el presente trabajo ponemos el énfasis en el estado actual en el que se encuentran los esquemas de integración y lo que se avecina en un futuro próximo, así como en los «cambios políticos» y la inestabilidad que se está produciendo en algunos países relevantes, como Venezuela, Argentina y Brasil. Asimismo, se están solventando, aunque con dificultad, algunos de los conflictos que habitan en la región, en particular, las relaciones entre Cuba y Estados Unidos, que repercuten en el conjunto de América Latina y el Caribe; el fin del conflicto en Colombia, que tiene una notable trascendencia; y, como ejemplo de enfrentamientos de carácter territorial, la disputa ente Chile y Bolivia por la salida al mar. Todo ello, y mucho más, define un escenario de incógnitas y, sobre todo, de fragmentación en la realidad latinoamericana.

    The configuration of the Latin America and the Caribbean area is extremely volatile.

    The former is therefore determined by some events. Although it is very difficult to make a prediction about the new panorama which is on the horizon for the region, thanks to specific situations it will be possible to set some of its characteristics. Firstly, the current academic work places particular emphasis on the present state of the integration schemes. Secondly, the research study would like to analyze what’s ahead not only for the near future of the integration schemes but also for the «political changes». Thirdly, the aim of this article is to study the political instability which is taking place in some countries as Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil as well as its possible impact on the integration schemes. Finally, it would be necessary to mention some regional conflicts that have an important impact in Latin America and the Caribbean area and which are slowly coming to an end. These disputes are, for example, the tension between Cuba and United States; the Colombian conflict and the territorial controversy related with the access to the sea between Chile and Bolivia. To sum up, all the elements above mentioned set up a complex scenery as well as a fragmented landscape in Latin America and the Caribbean.
