Resumen de Recent development of electronic computers in Japan

H. Yamashita

  • In Japan relay computers were first commercialized and a large scaled computer was installed in the Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL), Ministry of International Trade and Industry. These relay computers are actively used for the solution of scientific problems, as logical mathematics, weather forecasting, atomic power reactor etc.

In 1952 E. Goto of our university, in collaboration with Prof. H. Takahashi, invented a quite new computing element which utilizes parametric oscillation of magnetic cores and is named "Parametron". A computer using junction type transistors as dynamic flip flops was constructed in ETL. Medium sized computers of these two types are now being put on market by several manufacturing companies in Japan.

Meanwhile T. Motooka of our university investigated on computing circuits consisting of magnetic cores only wich is specially suited to digital controlling.

In the paper the parametron and new shift register consisting of magnetic cores only will be reported, with a list of digital and analogue computers developed in Japan.
