The legacy of neotraditionalist flamencology has created a static conceptual view that makes it difficult to conceive of any evolution of the style. The traditional view was based more on personal aesthetic positions than on the actual history of the flamenco.
Since the early 1980's, however, innovative musical ideas and the fusion of flamenco with other musics have not only deepened the concept of tradition, but also strengthened the idea that change and evolution have always been associated with flamenco.
Tradition and change are complementary concepts.
