    As well as the close relationship between residents’ attitude of a tourist destination and its success, their involvement in planning and managing is key for its sustainability. It is therefore important to identify the indicators and theories that can better contribute to a clear definition of attitude, involvement, and residents perception of the future. This work shares some clues that contribute to an understanding of the attitude of Boa Vista’s island residents towards its future. As an international tourist destination with increasing emphasis, this Cape Verdean island reveals results that corroborate and that counter some positions and common assumptions. Our contribution is a result of the application of semi-structured interviews to residents of this tourist destination in order to determine their perception towards the future and subsequent comparative analysis with their socio-demographic characteristics

    Da estreita relação entre a atitude dos residentes de um destino turistico e o seu sucesso, acresce o seu envolvimento no planeamento e gestão para a sua sustentabilidade. Importa por isso identificar os indicadores e as teorias que melhor podem contribuir para uma definição clara da atitude, envolvimento, e posicionamente dos residentes face ao futuro. Neste trabalho partilham-se algumas pistas que contribuem para uma compreensão da atitude dos residentes da ilha da Boa Vista face ao seu futuro. Enquanto destino turístico internacional, com cada vez maior destaque, esta ilha caboverdiana revela resultados que tanto corroboram como contrariam algumas posições e pressupostos de referência. Esta contribuição proveio da aplicação de entrevistas semidirigidas a residentes deste destino turístico com o objetivo de determinar a sua perceção face ao futuro e posterior análise comparativo com as suas características sócio-demográficas.
