Traditionally, dispositional coping styles have been related to symptom severity in mental disorders. Thus, avoidance coping has been found to be related most consistently to anxiety disorders, whereas coping strategies focused on emotions have been related to depressive symptoms. The main aim in the present study is to analyze the relationship between coping strategies and symptomatology severity for anxiety and depression related disorders. Results shown that patients with low score in anxiety and depression tests shown an Active coping style and employed Positive revaluation, Conformity, Personal development and Distancing coping strategies to a great extent than patients with high score in symptomatology. By contrast, patients with more severe anxiety and depression symptoms employed Depressive reaction, Suppression of distraction, Denial, Behavioural suppression and Palliative response coping strategies to a great extent than their counterparts.
