Resumen de The M.2. computer

Andrew Booth

  • The paper contains a short review of the various computing machines constructed at Birkbeck College, London. These started with the parallel binary relay machine ARC and proceeded via serial electronic machines SEC and APEXC to the small machine MAC, now in operation in the Laboratory. Five new machines of type M.2. are now either in operation or in the last stage of construction. The M.2. computer differs from MAC in the facts that, a) the storage capacity is increased from 1024 words to 8192 words, b) 64 words of immediate access storage have been added, c) a division order is now included in the code and d) the output speed has been increased to 50 characters per second.

The technical innovations in the machine are discussed.
