In the 1990s, political movements called “leagues” fought for the recognition of a local identity in contrast with national affiliations in Italy. Their success can be set down to specific points in their political platforms having, in the main, to do with cultural demands. However an area in the north stands out from the rest of the country and has deeply broken with the regionalist tradition. After a description of changes in the relations between local areas and the nation since Italian unification, the cultural policies of Fascism, Communism and Christian Democracy come under examination.

En Italie, dans les années quatre-vingt-dix, des mouvements politiques appelés « ligues » luttaient pour la reconnaissance d’une identité locale en opposition avec l’appartenance nationale. Bien que le succès de ces ligues revienne aux thèmes spécifiques de leurs programmes politiques qui portaient largement sur les revendications culturelles, un territoire du Nord se distingue du reste du pays et marque une rupture profonde au sein de la tradition régionaliste. L’article étudie l’évolution du rapport entre territoire local et nation depuis l’Unité italienne jusqu’à aujourd’hui et examine les politiques culturelles du fascisme, du communisme et de la Démocratie chrétienne.
