VECTORborne diseases are medically important in people and animals but previously were considered tropical, and primarily diseases of ruminants. This is no longer true and we can see today that they are common in pet animals and present in temperate countries, including those in Europe (Beugnet and Marié 2009). In recent years, there have been increasing observations of new tick species and diagnoses of vectorborne diseases among people and animals in new areas, including in the UK.
