  • The European meteorological service members of Eumetnet have decided to manage collectively that part of the ground-based observing systems dedicated to the support of general numerical weather prediction. This composite observing system, named Eucos, has been defined by a study programme led by Météo-France. This article summarises the results and describes the development plan for the next five years within the framework of a general strategy for European meteorological observation
