The idea of "corporate bodies" has some roots in Roman Law, and not exclusively in concepts like corpus or universitas. Some cases give hints to the way Roman lawyers dealt with the mention of communities e.g. in wills. A rarely treated source of that kind is Scaev. 3 resp. 32.93.4 where a guild of craftsmen is bequeathed. Scaevola avoids theoretical settings, unlike some years later his pupil Paulus in 12 Plaut. D. 34.5.20.
